In case you missed it, last month Ford announced a new innovative piece of technology for the upcoming Fusion V6 Sport that will significantly reduce the impact of potholes on the vehicle and your bank account.
According to AAA, damage from potholes costs drivers in the United States nearly $3 billion every year. Fortunately, the new Fusion V6 Sport will come equipped with a new computer-controlled shock absorber system as a standard feature.
Using information from 12 high-resolution sensors, onboard computers adjust the dampers every two milliseconds. When the edge of a pothole is detected, the dampers are adjusted to their stiffest setting. This stops the wheel from falling far into the hole, and significantly reduces the impact with the other side of the hole.
“We tested and tuned this system by driving over countless potholes – subjecting Fusion V6 Sport to the brutal, square-edged potholes of our Romeo Proving Grounds to finesse the software,” said Michener. “It was long hours of not very pleasant work, but the results are well worth it.”
